Who we are

The IDD Advisory Council is a dedicated group of individuals in Columbia County with a shared passion for improving the lives of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). We are a diverse group, drawing on the unique perspectives and experiences of family members who have loved ones with I/DD, self-advocates who bravely share their own insights and needs, direct support professionals who provide essential care and guidance, and concerned community members who want to make a difference. We believe that by bringing these voices together, we can create meaningful change and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone in Columbia County affected by I/DD.

Our Leaders

What we do

The IDD Advisory Council is more than just a group; we're a catalyst for positive change in the lives of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Columbia County. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life, and we work tirelessly to create an environment where that belief becomes a reality.

One of the key ways we achieve this is through organizing a variety of engaging events, outings, and support groups. These activities are carefully designed to foster a sense of belonging and connection within the I/DD community. From social gatherings and recreational outings to educational workshops and peer support groups, we provide opportunities for individuals with I/DD to connect with others, build friendships, and develop valuable life skills.

But our work goes beyond simply organizing events. We are committed to empowering individuals with I/DD to take control of their lives and reach their full potential. We advocate for their rights, provide resources and information, and work to break down barriers that prevent them from fully participating in society. Our ultimate goal is to create a truly inclusive community where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported.

How can you help?

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of others? Do you believe in a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential? If so, we invite you to join the IDD Advisory Council and become a champion for change in Columbia County.

Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) often face unique challenges and barriers to inclusion. They may struggle to have their voices heard, their needs met, and their rights recognized. That's where you come in. By joining our council, you become part of a dedicated network of advocates working tirelessly to create a more just and equitable society for people with I/DD.

We need your energy, your ideas, and your commitment to help us amplify the voices of individuals with I/DD. Together, we can:

  • Raise awareness: Educate our community about the challenges and triumphs of people with I/DD, breaking down stereotypes and fostering understanding.

  • Advocate for change: Push for policies and practices that promote inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities in education, employment, healthcare, and all aspects of life.

  • Empower self-advocates: Support individuals with I/DD in speaking up for themselves and shaping their own futures.

  • Build a stronger community: Create a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and belongs.

Joining the IDD Advisory Council is more than just volunteering your time; it's an opportunity to be part of a movement that is transforming lives and building a better future for all. Let's work together to ensure that individuals with I/DD are seen, heard, and respected as integral members of our community.
